What It Is

Legal Paternity Testing Explained.

Legal paternity testing establishes biological fatherhood to a scientific certainty — and produces a result that is admissible in court, enforceable in legal proceedings, and accepted for custody, child support, estate, and immigration matters.

Unlike peace-of-mind testing, legal paternity testing requires verified identity, witnessed sample collection, documented chain of custody, and processing through an AABB-accredited laboratory. Every one of those requirements is met at every legal collection appointment we coordinate.

If there is any possibility the results will be needed for a legal matter — choose legal testing. Switching after collection is not possible.

Important: If you are unsure whether your situation requires legal or personal knowledge testing, contact us before booking. We will help you determine the correct option — at no charge — before any appointment is scheduled.

The Collection Process

What Happens at Your Appointment.

Every legal collection follows the same structured, documented process — from arrival to sample transport.

01

Arrival & Identification

Our collection specialist arrives at your location at the scheduled time. Government-issued photo identification is verified for all parties before anything proceeds.

02

Consent Documentation

All adult participants sign consent forms prior to collection. For minors, a legal guardian provides authorization. Consent documentation becomes part of the chain-of-custody record.

03

Sample Collection

Buccal cheek swabs are collected from all parties using laboratory-approved methods. Collection is witnessed by our specialist and conducted in accordance with AABB standards.

04

Chain-of-Custody Completion

All chain-of-custody documentation is completed on-site at the time of collection. Samples are sealed, labeled, and signed immediately following collection.

05

Secure Transport

Samples are transported directly and securely to our AABB- and CAP-accredited laboratory partner. Transfer is documented as part of the chain-of-custody record.

06

Results Delivery

Results are delivered securely by email or mail within 3–5 business days of sample receipt. Full chain-of-custody documentation is included.

Questions & Answers

Legal Paternity Testing — FAQ.

Are results accepted in California and Nevada courts?
Yes. All legal testing follows AABB-compliant chain-of-custody protocols and is processed through an accredited laboratory. Results are accepted in family law, probate, and immigration proceedings in California, Nevada, and federally.
Can collection take place at our law office?
Yes. We prefer to collect at a professional location — your office, a medical facility, or another approved site — when legal testing is involved. This supports the integrity of the chain-of-custody record.
What if one party refuses to participate?
Participation requires consent of all adult parties. If a party refuses, a court order may compel participation. We can advise on documentation needed to support that process.
How quickly can you schedule a collection?
In most cases, we can schedule within 2–5 business days. For urgent matters, same-day scheduling is available starting at $250. Contact us directly by phone to discuss expedited options.
What identification is required?
Valid government-issued photo identification is required for all adult parties at the time of collection. For minors, identification from the legal guardian is required along with signed authorization.
Can results be sent directly to my attorney?
Yes. With appropriate written authorization, results can be delivered directly to your attorney's office. This can be arranged at the time of scheduling.
Is the collection specialist a neutral third party?
Yes. Our collection specialists are trained, independent professionals with no relationship to any party being tested. This is a requirement for legally admissible results.
Can I switch from legal to peace-of-mind testing?
You can choose peace-of-mind testing at any time before collection. However, once collection is completed under peace-of-mind protocols, results cannot be upgraded to legal admissibility. Contact us if you are unsure which option is right for you.
